The Guardian (1986). 'Points of View' TVC

Messaging: The ad uses a metaphor about a 'picture in parts', which when its metaphorical pieces are combined, form a discernible whole (akin to someone completing a jigsaw puzzle). The metaphor is told through a narrative about a skinhead https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skinhead who saves the archetypal 'man on the Clapham omnibus' https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Man_on_the_Clapham_omnibus from being crushed by a load of bricks, which are seemingly in the process of being hoisted to the building construction above. In it, multiple perspectives i.e. metaphorical 'picture parts' are shown - each depicting different perspectives on the same scene - two viewpoints, which offer up plausible but incomplete interpretations (constrained by the limitations of their vantage points); and a third, objective (seemingly omniscient) point-of-view, which the ad claims The Guardian has particular authority over i.e. that the newspaper has access to the the metaphorical 'discernible whole' and so, the truth, which it tells is therefore, absolute and incontestable. Note that by inference, the truth, which other news sources provide is necessarily only partly true - constrained by their respective, limited vantage points.
