Transcript: "...The best advice for someone who wants to get into floor management is probably to get experience in the workplace. That's the best way of doing it, I'd say. So, make sure you get letters off to companies. Get in the door and get experience by watching what floor managers do. That's the best way of doing it." Criticism: While direct/work experience is clearly valuable (as Tim points out above) it's important to make a distinction between 'employment' and 'career'. And so, while work experience is key for securing employment, often when you're starting out, it's not always that obvious where you want to end up i.e. while work experience might solve the immediate problem (of knowing how to direct your energies after completing secondary school) it's less likely to provide the insight required to help you make the right decisions about beginning your career - and so, your career will tend to reflect the opportunities (and their limitations) which were available to you through such a professional context.
